What is reStore?
reStore is a system for backing up files from your reMarkable device to cloud services (Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.) that you control.
How does reStore work?
Simply connect your reMarkable device to your computer, and reStore will help you back up or sync your files to your chosen destination. You can back up files to locally to your computer or link your Google Drive or Dropbox for cloud backups.
Does reStore support the reMarkable Paper Pro?
reStore supports the reMarkable 1 and reMarkable 2 tablets. reMarkable Paper Pro is not currently supported due to its secure boot and full disk encryption hardware features. We are actively researching reMarkable Paper Pro support.
Why is reStore better than reMarkable’s built-in cloud software?
  1. reMarkable’s built-in cloud software backs up your files directly to reMarkable’s proprietary and paid cloud servers. If their servers ever go down or you stop paying for a subscription, you could lose access to all your files stored there. Using reStore, your files are backed up directly to your chosen locations that you have full control over, so you’re never at risk of losing your reMarkable files, even if reStore stops working or you stop paying for a license.
  2. We’re less expensive: reMarkable charges $30/year for its yearly plan, and we only cost $15 yearly. Alternatively, you can get Connect (reMarkable) for $3 monthly, but we only cost $2 monthly.
  3. reStore provides better integrations, allowing you to sync with popular platforms like Google Drive or Dropbox.
How does the free trial work?
reStore offers a limited free trial so you can test its features and see how it fits your needs before committing to a license. You can make up to three full-device backups with the free trial before paying for a license.
What data does reStore access or store about me?
reStore only stores the serial number of your computer to help prevent license abuse and anonymous analytics data. We never store any of your files outside of your specified backup locations. reStore does not keep any copies of your files on our servers, and we do not have the ability to read any of your files.
What happens if I cancel my reStore subscription?
If you choose not to renew your reStore subscription, you will still have full access to all your existing backups, and you will still be able to browse and restore them directly through the reStore app. However, without a valid license, you will only lose the ability to create new backups. Your previously backed-up files remain safe and accessible at all times.
What happens if reStore stops being maintained in the future?
We plan on actively maintaining and improving reStore far into the future. However, if we ever discontinues support or updates, you will still retain full access to all your backups. These files are stored directly in your own accounts (e.g., Google Drive, Dropbox, or your local computer), ensuring that your backed-up files remain safe and accessible even if reStore is no longer supported.
What should I do if reStore isn’t working correctly?
  1. Try restarting the app and reconnecting your reMarkable device.
  2. If issues persist, please try restarting your computer.
